On October 9th, 2024, Chile IGF held its annual event in Santiago, bringing together over 80 participants from various sectors to discuss key issues of Internet governance.

A noteworthy panel was the “Digital Governance” panel moderated by academic and co-researcher Patricia Peña, who is also director and president of the Internet Society Chile Chapter. The conversation featured the participation of Geraldine González, telecommunications expert at Konsistenz; Javier García, academic at the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Las Américas, doctor of law and master of fundamental rights specializing in freedom of information; and Luz María García, general manager of the Chilean Association of Information Technology Companies (ACTI).

During the discussion, issues such as the importance of an inclusive and participatory digital governance, regulatory challenges within the digital scope, and the need to strengthen collaboration among the public sector, the private sector and the civil society to promote a safer and more accessible Internet for all were addressed.

To #RegulaciónConvergente co-researcher Javier García, participating in these types of meetings

“allows addressing Chile’s challenges regarding regulation and the institutional framework at a national level with the perspective of both the academia and the sector of telecommunications companies”.

The panel was part of a series of conversations that reflect the commitment of Chile IGF to the development of policies and practices that strengthen the digital ecosystem in the country.
