Chiara Sáez and Patricia Peña were awarded funds from Universidad de Chile to promote an academic discussion on techno-media convergence.

Universidad de Chile professors lead prominent proposal in VID transdisciplinary tender.

In the context of the “Transdisciplinary Networks, Nuclei and Academic Collaboration Initiatives” tender organized by Research and Development Vice-Rectory (VID) in 2024, the #RegulaciónConvergente researchers obtained the best score in the “Incubator” category with their proposal “Transdisciplinary Digital Convergence Regulation Nucleus”.

The main objective of the project, with a duration of 12 months, is to foster transdisciplinary dialogue about the regulation of digital convergence within Universidad de Chile. To this end the Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platformspublished by UNESCO in 2023 will be used as a guide, incorporating a multi-stakeholder approach.

The initiative brings together specialists from the fields of law, engineering, journalism, sociology, international relations, psychology and political science.

The committed products include the preparation of a Policy Paper and a public dissemination event, in line with the objectives of strengthening knowledge and collaborative action in this area.

Chiara Sáez, director of the Nucleus, expressed:

“We are very happy with this awarding because it allows us to move forward with the commitment we made this year when we joined the Internet for Trust Global Knowledge Network (I4TGKN), a network established by UNESCO that brings together think tanks, research centers and civil society organizations from around the world. This network intends to be a trusted interface between knowledge producers and public decision-makers, helping regulators to better address digital platform governance to protect freedom of expression and other human rights. Specifically, it will allow us to add more depth to the contribution that Universidad de Chile can make to this network.”
