Last Sunday, July 13th, academics Chiara Sáez and Javier García of the Fondecyt team on #RegulaciónConvergente attended the second day of the 2025 Popular Communication School in Peñalolén to talk about public communication policies.

This school, organized by Tres Puntos TV and the National Association of Community Channels of Chile on July 12th and 13th, sought to strengthen the training of communicators, audiovisual producers and people interested in community journalism.
The researchers shared results from various research studies conducted in recent years with an emphasis on the impact of communication policies in the Chilean media ecosystem, particularly regarding community media. They also addressed pending challenges in the final stretch of Gabriel Boric’s administration and in relation to the next presidential term, identifying three priorities for the sector:

a) To reinforce requirements linked to the social and participatory component in the law and/or regulations;
b) To improve financial conditions;
c) To advance toward a SPECIFIC INSTITUTIONALISM that PROMOTES community communication.
About the relevance of this event, project co-researcher Javier García said:
“The Popular Communication School is a valuable space where media can unfold their potential, and it is also a space for networking and exchanges with the academia and civil society.”
