Last Wednesday, July 30th, the co-researcher of the Fondecyt Project on #RegulaciónConvergente presented the book “Entrepreneurship and Artificial Intelligence in Journalism” at the Carmen Bueno–Jorge Müller Auditorium of the Faculty of Communication and Image (FCEI) of Universidad de Chile. Patricia Peña and the editor of the book, Hada Sánchez of Universidad de Sevilla, launched this collective work written with other international authors.
The book explores the intersection among artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and media, and seeks to establish a necessary dialogue for journalists, entrepreneurs, academics and media managers looking to lead the digital transformation with ethical, inclusive and cutting-edge solutions.

Our co-researcher presented her chapter on SOF+IA, a feminist chatbot designed to talk about digital harassment and violence using generative AI.
“The presentation and launch of this book at the university and in Chile is fundamental because this collective text offers a series of cases, initiatives and projects that are currently being developed in various countries around the world. From a journalism and communication standpoint, we want to appropriate artificial intelligence in a creative and critical way to develop algorithms of our own for different needs and opportunities,” stated Peña.
Her contribution outlines the lessons learned in the development of a conversational artificial intelligence prototype aimed at guiding women and gender diversities in cases of digital violence and harassment, a problem for which platforms have not yet provided clear or effective answers.

Patricia Peña’s chapter not only documents a technological innovation exercise but also proposes a critical reflection on the role that artificial intelligence can take on in complex social contexts. Her work helps to think about AI not only as an automation tool but also as a situated resource that can respond to urgent issues such as digital gender violence, opening new paths for research and dialogue in the field of journalism and communication.
