The panel, entitled “Institutionalism, Governance and Multilateralism: Challenges of Techno-Media Convergence in Chile”, addressed the links between the Chilean State and the strategic guidelines promoted by multilateral organizations in communications and digital regulation. The conversation placed an emphasis on the current challenges of media governance, the independence of regulatory bodies and the transformations emerged from artificial intelligence in information ecosystems.

The presentations included:
• Chiara Sáez, “Chile and the Recommendations and Strategic Guidelines of the Multilateral System Regarding the Regulation of Communications in the Context of Techno-Media Convergence”;
• Javier García, “Progress and Setbacks in the Independence of Convergent Bodies: The Case of the IFT in Mexico”;
• Patricia Peña, “Governance of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Chile and Its Implications for the Information Ecosystem”;
• Jorge Avilés, “Independence and Autonomy of Convergent Regulatory Bodies of Communications: A Proposal on Indicators Based on Four International Cases”.
The session was moderated by journalist Fabiola Torres.

We would like to thank those who attended, talked and enriched the discussion, as well as the event’s organizers for enabling an essential space for reflecting on public policies, communication and democracy in a changing technological scenario.
