The special issue, coordinated by Fondecyt Project 1230748, invites researchers to discuss institutional challenges and critical factors for a critical approach to digital governance in Latin America.
The call for papers will be open until September 30th, 2026.
The journal Comunicación y Medios has announced its call for Monograph N°55, scheduled for 2027 and entitled “Governance in the Era of the Digital Convergence of Communications and Culture: Institutions, Agents and Critical Factors in the Latin American Context”.
Digital convergence has transformed the value chain of cultural industries, creating new business models but also deepening issues such as disinformation, hate speeches and the precariousness of information work. In this scenario, this issue seeks to explore the institutional dimension of regulation, from self-regulation to the statutory regulation of platforms.
The publication falls directly within the work of the Fondecyt 1230748 research project “Critical Factors for Establishing a Convergent Regulatory Institutionalism of Communications in Chile”. It is also directly linked to the international conference to be held by the project in September 2026 in Santiago. Those presenting papers at this event are encouraged to also submit them to this call (more info here)).
This monograph is coordinated by Chiara Sáez (Universidad de Chile), Patricia Peña (Universidad de Chile) and Javier García (UDLA). The call accepts papers in English and Spanish addressing topics such as:
- Legislative initiatives and institutional architecture for convergence.
- OTT services, regulation and audiovisual diversity.
- Disinformation and governance mechanisms.
- Copyright protection and generative artificial intelligence.
- Gender violence facilitated by technologies and safety of children and adolescents.
- Algorithmic transparency and data protection.
Start of submission: January 2026.
Closing of submission: September 30th, 2026.
Estimated publication: June 2027.
