Chiara Sáez Participates in Discussion Group about the Future of Regulation and Technology at Congreso Futuro

The lead researcher of Fondecyt Project 1230748 on Convergent Regulation was part of the side events of Congreso Futuro, where she reflected on the challenges of the future from an ethical, regulatory and technological standpoint.

Last Thursday, January 15th, academic Chiara Sáez, lead researcher of Fondecyt Project 1230748, took part in one of the side events of Congreso Futuro, held at Multimedia Room 1 of the CEINA Cultural Center. The event brought together various panelists to discuss the future of regulation, land use and technological evolution.

The discussion group, entitled “Perceptions of the Future”, prompted a reflection on the challenges and opportunities of the future in strategic areas for Chile based on various fields of knowledge. Through approaches such as digital regulation, ecology and land use, technological innovation with an ethical perspective and the role of science in public policy, the panel addressed the need to anticipate risks, reduce inequalities, and build fairer, more sustainable and more collaborative futures.

In this context, Chiara Sáez contributed with the talk “Digital Dystopias and Regulation”, which proposed a critical reflection on the challenges of the future from the perspective of science, technology, sustainability and ethics. The discussion group also featured the participation of Senator Francisco Chahuán and other guest specialists.

Regarding her participation, Sáez says she sought to place two emphases in the discussion:

"On the one hand, the importance of the imaginaries provided by dystopian fiction in helping us think about the futures we do not want; and on the other, connecting the work of the National Council for the Future and Development—an initiative promoted by Senator Chahuán—with urgent challenges such as the governance of digital platforms. I believe that once this Council begins operating, it can play a coordinating role among different institutions whenever it is needed to address upcoming, emerging digital challenges."
