The Research and Creation Office Office of the Faculty of Communication and Image of Universidad de Chile organized the colloquium “The UNESCO Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms and Their Problematization in the Latin American Context”.
The event was part of the community engagement activities developed under the auspices of Fondecyt Project 1230748 on “Critical Factors for a New Convergent Regulatory Institutional Framework of Communications in Chile”.
The main reflections and recommendations emerged from two policy papers on digital platform governance -currently in press- were presented using the Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms issued by UNESCO in 2023 as a discussion framework.

The first Policy Paper, “Institutional Framework for the Regulation of Large Digital Platforms: From the UNESCO Guidelines to the South American Reality”, is a joint effort between the team of the Fondecyt Project on Convergent Regulation and Observacom. Digital platform governance is problematized from the standpoint of regulatory institutions of communications in Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay. The second Policy Paper , “Governance of Digital Platforms in Chile: Background and Evidence-Based Recommendations”, is a specific approach to the UNESCO Guidelines for the Chilean context prepared by the Transdisciplinary Digital Convergence Regulation Nucleus of Universidad de Chile.
