Digital Summit Latam 2026: Chiara Sáez and Javier García Participated in International Event in Madrid

The academics and researchers of the Fondecyt Project on Convergent Regulation attended the Digital Summit Latam 2026, held in late February in Spain.

The meeting established itself as a strategic coordination forum between Latin America and Europe for discussing the main challenges and opportunities of the digital transformation. It gathered leaders from the public and private sector, multilateral organizations and international experts.

Javier García, co-researcher of the project and academic at the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Las Américas, pointed out that the summit had a high level of engagement from the corporate sector, representatives of public bodies, members of parliament and academics. He added that:

“Although it has consolidated as a strategic event for identifying trends in the digital transformation in Latin America, it is still necessary to deepen the debates and incorporate other key actors such as civil society organizations.”

A Space for Interregional Dialogue

The Digital Summit Latam seeks to become an interregional dialogue platform where Latin America projects its vision into the global digital economy.

Several activities were carried out during the event’s two days, including keynote speeches, high-level panels, interinstitutional panel discussions and networking spaces. Their purpose was to generate consensus, strengthen institutional capabilities and promote strategic alliances with regional impact.

The event featured the participation of representatives from nearly 49 countries, reinforcing its global character and role as a coordination platform for digital policy in Ibero-America.

Projections for Latin America and Chile

One of the most relevant aspects of the encounter was advancing toward a common digital agenda for Latin America with an emphasis on the need to close connectivity gaps, accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies and strengthen regulatory frameworks.

For Chile, these discussions are particularly relevant considering both its positioning in digital connectivity in the region and its emerging ecosystem in technological innovation.

The role of Latin American countries as active actors in the configuration of the global digital economy was mentioned, not only as technology recipients but also as innovation and public policy generators.

Although the event had a regional focus, the involvement of governments and agencies showed tangible progress in digital transformation, as well as the importance of sharing national experiences.

In this sense, the Digital Summit Latam allowed identifying opportunities for alignment with global tendencies, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital governance and technological infrastructure.
