Roundtable on Sustainability of Community Media in Spain

Chiara Sáez and Javier García participated in a panel of specialists that conduct research on the development of sustainability indicators for community media in Spain.

The meeting was part of the R&D project “Sustainability of the Third Sector of Communication. Design and Application of Indicators” (SOScom), linked to the research network RICCAP and coordinated by professors Alejandro Barranquero and José Candón from UC3M and Universidad de Sevilla, respectively. The event began in early June and included the participation of Manuel Chaparro, professor of journalism at Universidad de Málaga and director of the research group COMAndalucía; Ángel García Castillejo, director of audiovisual policies, public and international service of the RTVE Corporation and professor at UC3M; Mariana Soffia, coordinator of the community television project La Veïnal in Barcelona; and Joaquín Pablo Urías Martínez, attorney specializing in human rights and academic at Universidad de Sevilla.

During the day, the indicators related to communication policies and the legal framework identified in the study were reviewed. With improvements in their formulation, they may contribute to increasing the sustainability of third-sector media.
