Fondecyt Project 1230748 \u201cCritical Factors for a New Convergent Regulatory Institutionalism of Communications in Chile\u201d includes a review of the institutional framework of several countries, among them Mexico. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To delve into the knowledge of international experiences, the academic of Universidad de las Am\u00e9ricas and co-researcher of the project went to Mexico City to meet with two officials of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT)<\/span><\/a>, and Aleida Calleja, director of the Mexican Institute of Radio (IMER)<\/span><\/a> and witness to the process of discussion and regulatory reform in telecommunications in this country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The interviews allowed obtaining more details on how the institutional framework in Mexico is configured and its background, as well as identifying some of the accomplishments and difficulties faced by the process of establishing and developing the IFT. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The obtained information is of great value for supplementing the documentary information already available, as it contributes relevant information to identify problematic aspects both in the institutional design and its implementation, as well as the organization\u2019s ability to effectively apply the regulatory framework. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It also allowed learning about the discussions and new challenges faced by this institutionalism in situ<\/em> , which include questions by the executive power, particularly from the Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador, who has stated that these types of autonomous bodies \u201care useless<\/span><\/a>\u201d.
