On behalf of the\u00a0Faculty of Law of Universidad de Las Am\u00e9ricas<\/span><\/a>, Javier Garc\u00eda, academic of law and Convergent Regulation co-researcher, participated in the 10th Annual Conference of the International Society of Public Law (ICONS).<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event\u2019s main topic was \u201cThe Future of Public Law: Resilience, Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence\u201d. The conference, held at the Faculty of Law of the IE University campus in Madrid, gathered more than two thousand academics from all continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose was to discuss and reflect on the various transformations that public law is experiencing as a result of contemporary social challenges such as the search for sustainability, the artificial intelligence revolution and, in a broader sense, the need for resilience in a world of exponential changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, Professor Garc\u00eda presented his paper \u201cCritical Factors for a Convergent Regulatory Institutionalism of Communications\u201d. In his presentation, he shared the progress of the research conducted as part of Fondecyt Project 1230748<\/span><\/a>, which, as he explained, \u201csystematizes information of various international experiences with constituting regulatory institutions of convergence in communications in order to identify best practices that can be replicated in the Chilean context\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the\u00a0UDLA<\/a>\u00a0academic participated in the XXI International Congress of the International Forum on Communication Law and Ethics<\/a><\/span> (FIEDI) held at the Faculty of Humanities and Information Sciences of CEU San Pablo University in Madrid<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the congress focused on the topic \u201cNew Challenges of Ethics and the Right to Information: Disinformation, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Rights\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his intervention, Garc\u00eda presented a deep analysis of content moderation on social media by judicial bodies in Chile. He shared statistics and sentences that illustrate how Chilean courts act as content moderators on digital platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To conclude, the researcher highlighted the forum\u2019s importance in discussing and reflecting on communication from an ethical and legal perspective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDiscussions around the European regulations on media freedom and the risk that countries can use them to restrict communications were especially relevant.
