In the Newsletter #8 on regulation and convergence in communications<\/a><\/span> we conduct an analysis of the evolution and challenges of the national media landscape, particularly regarding what happened with SUBTEL and the non-collection of payments for using the radio spectrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is in addition to the first episode of the second season of the podcast \u201cPor Todos Los Medios\u201d (By All Means), where researchers Chiara S\u00e1ez and Patricia Pe\u00f1a analyze the regulation of digital platforms based on their participation in an event organized by UNESCO in Croatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At a regional level, S\u00e1ez visited the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) in Colombia to analyze various aspects of the institution\u2019s functioning with members of this body, but also members of the civil society and the academia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In our national territory, the annual meeting of the Chile Internet Governance Forum (Chile IGF) was held on October 9th in Santiago. annual event<\/a> brought together over 80 participants from various sectors to discuss key issues of Internet governance, and co-researchers Patricia Pe\u00f1a and Javier Garc\u00eda took part with a panel on digital governance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, in early November, Universidad de La Frontera in Temuco hosted the 10th Congress of the 10th Congress of the Chilean Association of Communication Researchers (INCOM).<\/a>). The event, which marked the tenth anniversary of the association,<\/a>gathered more than two hundred attendees, including academics, researchers and students from various institutions across the country, as well as the team that makes up the #Regulaci\u00f3nConvergente project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Furthermore, in the context of the \u201cTransdisciplinary Networks, Nuclei and Academic Collaboration Initiatives\u201d tender organized by the Research and Development Vice-Rectory (VID) in 2024<\/a>, #Regulaci\u00f3nConvergente researchers Chiara S\u00e1ez and Patricia Pe\u00f1a obtained the best score in the \u201cIncubator\u201d category with their proposal \u201cTransdisciplinary Digital Convergence Regulation Nucleus\u201d. They were awarded funds for a transdisciplinary project that, after one year, will result in a policy brief.<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In this edition, we also address the presentation of the quadrennial report on cultural diversity in media in Chile, which featured academic Chiara S\u00e1ez as part of the National Drafting Committee. Additionally, there is a column by co-researcher Javier Garc\u00eda in which he analyzes the popularity gained by global indexes or rankings that, like thermometers, rate or score the situation of democracy and civil liberties in countries based on a series of indicators or questions that vary according to the entity developing the instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To conclude, we would like to recommend the following: the book \u201cMujeres de la Comunicaci\u00f3n Chile\u201d (Women of Communication Chile)<\/em>), published by FES Comunicaci\u00f3n and presented at the 10th INCOM Chile Congress, which highlights the work of 23 female researchers in the field, including academics Chiara S\u00e1ez and Patricia Pe\u00f1a; the \u201cDiagnostic Report on Capacities and Needs of Community Radio Broadcasters in Chile\u201d<\/em>\u201d, which analyzes strengths and weaknesses in five key areas, seeking to strengthen community radio stations through training as part of a project by Universidad Diego Portales; the Digital Global Compact report<\/em>adopted at the Summit of the Future 2024, which promotes an inclusive and secure digital governance, regulating artificial intelligence and connecting key communities to the Internet with principles based on human rights and SDGs; and the \u201cEnabling a Sustainable News Environment\u201d<\/em> report of the UN CNTI, which analyzes 23 policies in over 30 countries, proposing seven legislative models to finance digital journalism while preserving independence, diversity and public relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The newsletter closes with a new video of our series on techno-media convergence, where together with co-researcher Javier Garc\u00eda, we explore the development of the international debate on a regulatory institutionalism of convergence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read newsletter #8 here.<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
