The visit is part of the activities of the Fondecyt project that is researching institutional convergence processes in Latin America.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Co-researcher of Fondecyt Project 1230748 on #Regulaci\u00f3nConvergente Javier Garc\u00eda was a visiting scholar in Mexico City, where he conducted interviews with academics Clara Luz \u00c1lvarez of Universidad Panamericana and Rodrigo G\u00f3mez of Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico (UNAM). The purpose of the visit was to update information about the debates on the convergent institutionalism in the Mexican telecommunications sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his visit, Garc\u00eda was able to get first-hand knowledge about the discussions emerged after President Claudia Sheinbaum\u2019s proposal to the Mexican Senate concerning the members of the new Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT), which will replace the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT). The CRT will be part of the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT), but it will have technical and operational autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five profiles proposed by the executive have training in law, robotics and telecommunications. They will be tasked with regulating and supervising the use of the radio spectrum, networks and digital services, ensuring that access to the Internet and telecommunications is a universal right in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
