An Invitation to Participate in the Debate

You are receiving Newsletter Nº1 of the research project “Critical Factors for a New Convergent Regulatory Institutionalism of Communications (IRCC) in Chile from the Perspective of Comparative Media Systems”, awarded by the 2023 Fondecyt Regular Call for Proposals.
At the same time, this email is an invitation to subscribe to our newsletter, which you can do by registering here.

The project is led by Chiara Sáez, associate professor at the Faculty of Communication and Image of Universidad de Chile. Its co-researchers are Patricia Peña, FCEI academic and president of the Chilean chapter of the Internet Society, and Javier García, director of the Observatory on the Right to Communication and academic at Universidad de las Américas. The research assistant is FCEI journalist Jorge Avilés.

The purpose of this research is to conduct an institutional analysis that allows reflecting on the knots and tensions involved in the development of this type of institutionalism in the country. Another important objective is to develop informative communication products that allow expanding the social basis of this debate through knowledge transfer. For this reason, a bimonthly newsletter, a webpage in English and Spanish, audiovisual capsules and a podcast are contemplated throughout the project’s period (2023-2027). Obtain more information about the project here.

As the Fondecyt 1230748 project on regulation and convergence in communications, we invite you to read our first newsletter, where we want to share the multiple dimensions of the work we will carry out during this research. Our purpose is to establish a debate on a regulatory institutionalism in communications in Chile, examining institutions in other countries, their challenges, similarities and particular characteristics from an interdisciplinary perspective that integrates law, sociology and communications. We will also share various notes that may be of interest, as well as editorial material and recommendations on this and other topics of the research in communication policies in a convergent scenario. Of course, we are also interested in receiving comments, suggestions and reflections that may help further this debate. The project’s email address is fondecyt1230748@gmail.com.

If you consider this newsletter to be a contribution to an informed discussion on these issues, we invite you to share its content with your networks and communities. Because we understand that data privacy is important and do not want to end up in the spam folder, this non-consented mailing will be a one-time thing. Remember to subscribe, as otherwise you will not be able to keep receiving our contents in the future.
